As I continually search for a full time photography position to complement my weekend part-time/seasonal work for Sportography. I have not had any inspiration in my portfolio building. I did not do all that I wanted to do this summer, and I had hopped that in those missed/plans changed weekends, I could have added some inspiring photography. As it turned out, I choose not to acquire about other money making/learning experiences that could have added to my resume, if not also my portfolio.
I learn from everything, and what I learn now can be used in the future. I hope to get more opportunities to expand my portfolio and to learn at every opportunity.
I have one job, then there is my business that I am trying to start up. That is not doing too well…….
I am looking for a good more full time weekday job, that will bring in more income than my current part-time photography job. Not sure what to do about this situation. There do not seem to be many options, but I am trying and even thinking about getting some more experience in Wedding photography. That could be good money for a few weekends here and there in the summer and fall, but that is for the experience and maybe a few portfolio pieces as to show family/friends if they want me to do the photography.
As for some people, I will only do it if I get a little bit of money for the gig. Especially for a brother of mine….. Not that I would want to do the photography, but I would recommend that he either find someone or hire me and pay enough for an assistant, along with a little for prints. Mostly just to cover cost. The advantage of this is that they will get a really nice wedding present.
Friends get a discount and a nice wedding present delivered after the wedding (aka a photo w/frame from the wedding) well that would be something that they might normally want to buy.
Family as I said is a different story. Depends on who it is and what the situation is.
More later, no time to continue to rant now.
Applied for a freelance web updating job from craigslist.org this week. I got the position and have already worked over 6 hours for the job so far. The work is very interesting, and is forcing me to go back to my roots of going through the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and knowing how everything has been coded into the site design already and following those same guidelines as I am updating.
I am also learning how to code using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) in ways that I have not learned or seen before, and therefore I am forced to learn on the job, which is not always a bad thing. Sometimes the best way to learn how to do something and having it suggested to you and having to learn the best way to implement the final product.
There is no sense being stuck with just the knowledge that we already have, the way to improve and to gain more skills is to learn them, be that on the job, or in school or teaching your self through online tutorials or through the help of friends.
There never is a bad time to learn something new.
